The reel's waayyy too long in terms of industry standards. Try to shorten up the scenes. With demos you typically want to show more dramatic range, but it seems the *announcer* type voice is your bread and butter which is fine. You get surprisingly decent quality out of that snowball. It sounds a little like you're using Audacity noise removal though. Try other DAWs like Reaper (comes with an indefinite free trial).

AgentRedJackal responds:

Thanks for the advice! Most of these clips are just from finished game mods that have been streamed in some form to a large audience. If I make a new reel(focused on appealing to those looking for voice work here, animators etc), I'll change it up and see what I can work with.

I've heard Reaper is very good, so I'll give it a try!

Great reel! Shows decent range. A little on the longer side, but acceptable. Mixing's a little spotty in some places and jarring on the ears, but other wise alright! Keep it up!

At the beginning, just your name is fine, no introductions needed. Lots of background noise, try to record either in a better space or try to gate it out in post. Try to avoid adding effects onto your voice in post, it doesn't show what *you* can do as a voice actor necessarily. Your audio peaks wayyyy too fucking much, that's an *absolute* no go for most projects. Most people will stop listening as soon as they hear clipping. Try to keep the reel under 60 seconds. You've got a few similar character archetypes/voices, try to show more variation.

LuckoDaStars responds:

They are actually direct Rip's from the videos I have done. So the at its other voices are actually from the project maker themselves. As for the first voice that was with an older microphone before I got my brand new one. I'll keep what you said in mind however

Surprised to see an NVT entry here. Nice work! The elmo voice is a little jarring for your ears. You could've probably fixed that up in post. the impressions are well done.

You're rushing way too quickly especially towards the beginning. The point of narration is to get your point across in a compelling way. In some areas, you're behaving more like it's a character reel. It's a little too long for a real *reel*, you should aspire for it to be 60 seconds or under. However, you emote well and I see a lot of potential.

WalliumVA responds:

I appreciate the feedback! This is the first time i've ever really done a narration reel, I expected this to have pacing flaws but I just wasn't sure where XD In future, I shall endeavour to make my recordings not too rushed in order to establish a better pace, and cut down on the time.

First of all, the demo is way too long. At most it needs to be 60 seconds. Some of your skits go on for waay too long for the amount of value they add to the reel. Also, try to avoid adding effects to your voice if at all necessary. This is your DEMO for god's sake. People want to hear your voice. Otherwise, I see a lot of potential. Good luck!

TheEighthHour responds:

Much appreciated! I'll take that to heart, and see how I can make it better.

Levels are too low. Also, I'd work on your diction. At points, it's difficult to understand you at all. Also, your delivery is flat. It's extremely apparent that you're reading. Where are those peaks and valleys man? Show me even just a little bit of emotion.

Short, to the point, and shows your emotional and vocal range. Looking good!

For the love of God please record in mono in the future. It's painful to listen to. Firstly, you're rushing as all hell. That may be because you're nervous or something. I don't know. You're not letting any emotion get through as a result and you're giving a performance on par with that of Lisa from "The Room." Try to make the character at least sound human instead of some A.I. It's monotone and flat as all hell and the levels are excessively low. However, keep it up! I'm always happy to see new voice actors!

Typically, you want to keep your reel to 60 seconds or less. Also, your reel is split into several parts. It seems you've combined a character reel, promotional reel, and commercial reel all in one. Now that's all fine and dandy, but you typically want separate reels for each type of work. By combining it all into an amalgamated mess like this, it doesn't give employers the information about your voice and range that you need. Also, for the characters that you do include, they're not diverse at all. You're basically including the same character doing the exact same thing for the character portions of the reel. With a demo, you want to show your emotional and vocal range. However, other than that, seems alright! Good luck and keep it up!
